Minister of State with responsibility for Public Health, Well Being and National Drugs Strategy
I was appointed as Minister of State with responsibility for Public Health, Well Being and National Drugs Strategy at the Department of Health by An Taoiseach Michael Martin in July 2020. As Minister, I oversee the Healthy Ireland Programme, the Drugs Policy Unit and the Tobacco and Alcohol Control Unit of the Department.
National Drug Strategy
The vision of the strategy aims to create a healthier and safer Ireland, where public health and safety is protected, and the harms caused to individuals, families and communities by substance misuse are reduced and every person affected by substance misuse is empowered to improve their health, wellbeing and quality of life.
This vision recognises the importance of responding to the harms caused by substance misuse which impacts on individuals, families, communities and wider society, and helping those who develop drug or alcohol problems to address their personal health needs and improve their health, wellbeing and quality of life.
